Travelling around Australia is not just about the amazing sights and stunning natural beauty. It’s also about good grub, good drinks and a comfortable place to rest for the night. Luckily there are great pubs even in some of the most remote areas of Australia. We’ve picked our top five pubs from our new release, Great Australian Pubs by Lee Mylne.
1. Imperial Hotel, Ravenswood, Queensland
Swing open the saloon doors of the Imperial Hotel in Ravenswood to find yourself in an impressive Edwardian-style building. This hotel still offers good drinks, good food and good accommodation 100 years after opening.
2. Innamincka Hotel, Innamincka, South Australia
If you imagined a traditional Aussie pub, you might well conjure up something very close to this hotel in Innamincka, near Innamincka Regional Reserve. Nearly 500 kilometres from the next pub, this hotel offers welcome respite from a day exploring the dusty surrounds.
3. Pub in the Paddock, Pyengana, Tasmania
Tucked away in the hamlet of Pyengana, this pub is famous for its beer-drinking pigs, but provides hearty meals and good tipples for humans, too.
4. Goat Island Lodge, Adelaide River, Northern Territory
You can only get to this island in the Adelaide River by boat or helicopter, so you’ll be ready for a drink and some of the quality pub grub by the time you arrive. It’s pretty basic, but with surroundings like this, who’s complaining?
5. Silverton Hotel, Silverton, New South Wales
While the hotel is famous for appearing in many Aussie movies including Mad Max, the hot dogs and hospitality are rightfully famous as well.
