Entries for our Road Trippers Hall of Fame 2012 close at the end of October, and so we thought we’d showcase a few of our intrepid road trippers.
Our road trippers are couples, families, solo travellers who have hit the road for a few months to explore the vast and spectacular reaches of Australia. They’ve all been nominated to the Hall of Fame and are in the running to win a fantastic prize pack, including a selection of Explore Australia books, a picnic hamper and a gift voucher from BCF.
Lyndon, Bec and Charlie Sparrow have been on the road exploring Australia for most of the year, which means that their blog is packed full of stories and photos from all over Australia. If you aren’t quite convinced about taking a road trip around the country, the spectacular imagery on 1 year off just might convince you.
Most recently in Arkaroola in the Flinders Ranges, where they have really had to put their four-wheel driving skills to the test, the Sparrows have ticked off most of the places that would be on your Aussie travel bucket list, including Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grand, Uluru and Coober Pedy.
As they are travelling with a camper trailer, the Sparrows have been able to get off road and experience some places that travellers using a caravan or a big rig might not be able to visit.
While their road trip might be over, the Gunton family are still sharing the posts of their travels on their blog. Their trip started in Brisbane in June, and the family spent four months on the road seeing a huge chunk of Australia. You can just imagine how great their slide night is going to be. You can also catch up with 2 kids and a caravan on Twitter, where they are continuing to post about road-trip-related topics.
Only in Australia would a 300-kilometre drive be considered a short trip. Road tripping around Australia, you really have to deal with some epic drives. But when you have the promise of a relaxing swim in Mataranka Springs at the end of your trip, like the Day family did recently, the distance might not seem too long.
They’ve looped around the country from Melbourne, through Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and they’ve just made it in to Queensland. While in Northern Territory, they visited landmarks that you hear so much about, including Kakadu, and decided that it was well worth the journey.
Have you been on a road trip around Australia? What would be on your must-visit list?
